India became a member of WTO in 1995 and agreed to adhere to the product patent regime by 2005. This has led to a significant growth in pharmaceutical industry (>15%) and increased stakes of MNCs in Indian operations. Lot of money is being invested in India in R & D activities by MNCs as well as Indian Pharmaceutical companies. India would very soon become a global hub for CRAMS ( contract research and manufacturing services ). Simultaneously there is growth in pharmacy colleges in India and other education institutes offering education in life sciences. It is seen that lot many students are attracted to Pharmaceutical industry to make their career. There is increase in demand for the professionals who are expert in latest functional areas in pharmaceutical industry like clinical research, pharmaceutical patent and regulatory affairs, pharmaceutical management etc. IAPS has been established to cater to increasing demand of professionals by Pharmaceutical Industry by imparting professional training to the aspirants and making them suitable candidate to enter the industry.

IAPS made the beginning in July 07, by offering Correspondence Course in Clinical research. IAPS is a concept of Mr Mukund Varma, who is well known pharmaceutical industrialist & director of one of oldest pharmaceutical company from Pune, The Varma Pharmacy P Ltd. He is B.Pharm & MBA ( Marketing ) from University of Pune and also completed Diploma in International Business from Symbiosis Institute of Foregin Trade.

Mr Mukund Varma is member of professional associations like, Indian Pharmaceutical Association, The Institute of Clinical Research U.K. He was also the coordinator for the 54th Indian Pharmaceutical Congress Held in Pune in 2002.
